NEW YORK CITY, New York: Amazon is expanding its push into healthcare by offering a new weight-loss pill from Eli Lilly through in-clinic kiosks and same-day delivery, as competition intensifies in the fast-growing obesity drug market.
The company said its pharmacy unit will stock Lilly's newly approved pill at kiosks located in select primary care clinics and provide rapid delivery options to patients across the United States.
Amazon Pharmacy began delivering GLP-1 medications in 2021, but has not stocked injectable versions in kiosks due to refrigeration requirements. The pill format removes that constraint.
No need for cold storage is "what allows for broader access and for them to be stored safely in a kiosk for dispensing," said Tanvi Patel, a vice president at Amazon Pharmacy.
The company said about half of U.S. customers currently have access to same-day delivery, with plans to expand coverage. All customers receive medications within four days.
Amazon is also fulfilling prescriptions through Lilly's direct-to-consumer platform, LillyDirect, reflecting a broader shift toward streamlined access to weight-loss treatments.
Lilly said last week that it would begin selling its new pill, Foundayo, directly to cash-paying customers via LillyDirect, with a starting price of US$149 per month for the lowest dose.
Patients can also access Amazon's same-day delivery through prescribing partners such as WeightWatchers, Patel said.
Amazon has already been stocking a rival oral weight-loss drug, Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill, in kiosks at select locations.
Currently, the Wegovy pill is available at five kiosks in California, where patients can pick up prescriptions at Amazon's One Medical clinics following a consultation.
The kiosks, introduced last year, are designed to dispense commonly used medications such as antibiotics, blood pressure treatments, and asthma inhalers, with the aim of reducing barriers to access and lowering delivery costs.
Patients do not need a One Medical membership to use the service, though appointments can be booked through the platform. A one-year subscription to One Medical costs $199.
As Amazon expands the kiosk model beyond California, it may extend availability to additional healthcare providers, depending on state regulations, Patel said.
The company has also been investing heavily in logistics to support its healthcare ambitions.
Amazon invested more than $4 billion in 2025 to expand its delivery network, aiming to triple the number of delivery options and reach underserved areas, including small towns and rural communities.
By the end of 2026, same-day delivery is expected to be available in 4,500 locations, Patel said.
